Some people say, "God wouldn't tell you to do anything that you couldn’t do." The truth is that everything that God tells us to do is impossible for us to do. Even though He knows this to be true, He still tells us to do it. Our reaction to His commands should not be trying to do the impossible. The first thing that we need to do is realize that we can't obey.
Even though it seems that we are in a quagmire, there is a solution. We don't have to live the Christian life alone. We have been given the greatest gift - the Holy Spirit. God wants us to know that we can't do anything without Him. That's why He tells us to do impossible things. If we come to Him, asking Him to take control of our lives, He will. That's when He will empower us to do the impossible.
God doesn't want our works. He wants our hearts. We can't please God with our works. They are "as filthy rags".* When we give God your heart, He will change it, and He will make us into "new creations".** We will be used for His glory, and we will live in the freedom and joy that comes from a relationship with Him, and a dependency upon Him.
We can't do the right thing, but God can do it through us. We can't do it alone, but God can do it with us. Our works can't please God, but our hearts will. Don't try to obey, because it won't work. Give God your heart, and watch, as many miracles happen.
